Life As a Melody

Pickles

Conrad introduced me to this comic, and to comics.com. The cartoon resonated with me because

  1. I often forget the words,
  2. I usually sing way off-key, and
  3. I do my best to sing when no one can hear me.

Just because we’re not perfect doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy life to the hilt. ;)

What do you think? Do you ever do some things you’re not especially good at, just for the sheer joy of it?

Thanks to rummuser, bikehikebabe, Evan and Mike for commenting on last week’s post.

I absolutely do, Jean. That is how I am able to get much more richness from life experience than by only doing the things I do well. Much more!

Conrad and rummuser,
I trusted you both to be kindred spirits on this one. ;)

I think everything Conrad, rummuser (& Jean) do, they do well. Most everything I do is work that has to be done. Simple, but I do it well from repetition.

But when I see the top notch dancers, singers (American Idol), ski racers, stunt-1.skiers, 2.bicyclers, 3.skateboarders on TV, even the actors, I think–WOULDN’T IT FEEL WONDERFUL TO EXCEL LIKE THAT! (Better not to risk a broken neck tho’.)

I wasn’t a good figure skater, kayaker, or downhill skier but I enjoyed doing them. Does that count?

bikehikebabe,
Of course it counts! Come on, you know my philosophy, “If it’s not fun it doesn’t count.” To me that’s a lot more important than excelling.

My singing is so bad Andy sometimes protested when I sang to Kaitlin when she was a baby. “You’ll ruin her ear!” Tough. There are more important things in life than having perfect pitch. ;)

Bikehikebabe, thank you kindly! Jean, I too sing. It is entirely for my pleasure. If the people in the vicinity do not like it, that is their problem! Not mine.

rummuser,
Of course, maybe you don’t sing as badly as I do. ;)

Yes i do. Specially when no one is watching. Because I don’t like people laughing at me when they see that I am not good at it. I just enjoy singing at my bathtub by myself.
